The nation’s largest and most comprehensive trade show for the water, wastewater, and energy industries is preparing for its newest, more impressive editions. The SMX Convention Center in Pasay City, Philippines will host WATER PHILIPPINES 2023 (6th edition) and PhilEnergy 2023 (3rd edition) from March 22-24, 2023.

More than ten thousand delegates and businesspeople representing forty different professions associated with the water and energy industries are expected to attend both events. With the return of the Conferences – hosted by some of the partner associations, including the Philippine Water Works Association (PWWA) and the Philippine Energy Efficiency Alliance, Inc. – the event will provide a platform for more than 300 exhibiting brands and companies representing more than 60 exhibitor profiles to showcase the latest technologies and products (PE2). Over the course of the three-day event, WATER PHILIPPINES and PhilEnergy 2023 will host a series of free, open seminars.

PhilEnergy 2023 was formerly known as Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Philippines; however, as the trade show expanded to include three additional sub-events in order to better serve the energy sector as a whole, it changed its name to reflect its new status as PhilEnergy 2023. Three new exhibitions have been added: Electric and Power Philippines, Electric Vehicle Philippines, and Energy Storage Philippines. The Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers (PSME) is also behind PhilEnergy, and they’ll be hosting a symposium as part of their Technical Division. There will be a panel discussion with several technical speakers present to lead the audience in the discussion.

“Whether there’s a crisis or none, we should mainstream energy efficiency as a primary resource in good times and in bad,” said PE2 President Alexander Ablaza. “We have been asking the Philippine government to understand that energy efficiency is not just necessary during a crisis. PhilEnergy will be a venue to put the spotlight into this important issue.”

The DOE predicts that between now and 2040, the nation’s total final energy consumption will increase by 4.3% annually. According to a 2019 report by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the country’s increasing energy consumption is due to the country’s robust economy.

The Philippines has some of the highest electricity prices in Asia due to both supply and production constraints. The fluctuating cost of fuel on the global market is often cited as a contributing factor. So, there are growing calls to drastically reduce, if not eliminate, the sector’s use of materials that contribute to harmful emissions. One approach being taken at the regional level is switching to renewable energy.

Philippine lawmakers passed the Renewable Energy Act in 2008 with the goal of increasing the percentage of renewable energy in the country’s power generation mix to 35% by 2030 and 50% by 2040. The law reaffirms the nation’s resolve to increase the use of renewable energy sources to reduce emissions, boost the economy, and safeguard the health of its citizens and the natural world.
